Stone Bath Aftercare Guide

Stone Resin Baths are not only beautiful in aesthetic, this masterfully crafted durable stone is hard-wearing, tactile and designed for longevity, which is why it remains a favourable choice in bathrooms around the world, and given you provide the correct aftercare, your stone bath should last you a lifetime, testament to our Buy For Life ethos and lifetime stone resin guarantee.

In comparison to acrylic baths, stone resin is a superior choice for its palpable surface, purity and renewable material, making the stone not only designed to last but sustainable and renewably sourced. See our stone vs acrylic guide here.  Our beautiful stone resin material is available in two different styles - matte and polish. Both reflect the superior quality and luxurious design of our stone material.  A polished coating adds a radiant finish to your bathroom perfect for a contemporary, chic interior. In contrast, a smooth and tactile matte finish is best suited to a clean, minimal luxury aesthetic. Read below for our aftercare guide on both of these premium stone finishes, ensuring you retain the optimum quality the stone is designed to provide.

How do you clean and remove scratches from a stone resin bath?

Stone resin is a low maintenance material, although thorough aftercare won't go unnoticed. Small steps aid in the prolonged beauty of your stone resin bath, including rinsing and drying the surface each time you use your bath to ensure soap scum isn’t present. The level of cleaning required is dependent on the colour of your bath, with scratches more visible in darker tones than on a white bath.  If scratches are present on your stone bath, simply follow cleaning methods as usual, though instead of allowing your bath to dry you should ensure the surface is still damp before using a sponge scourer to lightly rub cream cleanser over the surface of the bath. By using straight lines and horizontal motions, the scratch should be invisible however upon drying, always make sure the cleanser has perfectly blended with the rest of the stone. If highly noticeable, repeat the steps over a larger area of the bath. For more information and in-depth steps on cleaning and care of your stone bath, see our Cleaning and Care guide.

How do you prevent damage to your stone resin bath?

Although the low-maintenance stone is easy enough to care for, you need to prioritise that nothing else will potentially harm it. Taking measures such as avoiding harsh chemicals near your bath will aid in quality protection, as strong surface cleaners or paint remover can permanently damage the surface. Protection from heat appliances is also essential, such as hair straighteners or curling tongs.

How to clean, and care for your stone products

Polished Stone Polished materials should be cleaned regularly to preserve a flawless appearance. Cleaning immediately after use will maintain longevity and durability along with its immaculate glow. The quick and easy process simply consists of rinsing with warm, soapy water and drying with a soft cloth. If stubborn stains appear on your polished bath, it can be more difficult to clean - a stone polishing kit is the best solution for light scratches. However, deep scratches and chips that appear difficult to treat require a professional stonemason who can repair the polished product back to its original state. Soap scum is a common aberration that often appears after many bathings. This can easily be minimised with a non-acidic soap scum remover that is safe to use and will not dull the surface of the polished stone.  Do’s and dont’s
  • Clean immediately after use
  • Clean any damage immediately
  • Clean with warm soapy water
  • Invest in a polishing kit to clean scratches and stains
  • Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaners
  • Do not use cleaners containing acid including vinegar and lemon juice
  • Do not clean with concentrated bleach
  • Do not clean with shampoo
Matte Stone  Similar to polished stone, matte stone products should be cleaned immediately after use with warm, soapy water and dried with a soft cloth. Smooth matte material involves a deep, thorough clean at least once a month, we advise polishing with a Wet & Dry sandpaper pad to ensure all harsh stains are removed. An alternative to this is a cream cleaner that will repair the surface back to its immaculate finish. Do’s and dont’s
  • • Clean immediately after use
  • • Simple maintenance: Sanding and polishing with a Wet and Dry sandpaper pad, your bathtub will be good as new even after years of use.
  • • Clean at least once a month
  • • Do not clean with concentrated bleach
  • • Do not clean with shampoo

Polished finish  Light surface scratches – it is possible to remove these using a stone polishing kit which can be purchased from most major DIY stores. Deep scratches and chips – we recommend that you use a professional stone mason. These companies can be found by doing a search on Google for ‘stone resin repair’ Matte finish Surface scratches and chips can be polished out using various grades of sand paper depending on the depth of the scratch/chip. Once the scratch or chip has gone, you will need to smoothen it off using the fine grade sand paper that was supplied with your product.
